Meet Austin Lawrence

Question: How long have you been a tour guide?

I’ve been a tour guide for 7 years in the breathtaking Dwarsrivier Valley, where every trail, vineyard, and historic path
tells a story. Guiding guests through this unique landscape has been more than just a job—it’s a passion and a way to
share the beauty, culture, and hidden gems of the valley. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of creating
unforgettable adventures, connecting people to nature, and showcasing the rich heritage that makes Dwarsrivier so special.

Q: Why did you become a tour guide?

Growing up in the hidden gem of the Dwarsrivier Valley inspired me to become a tour guide. Many visitors drive
between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, never discovering the beauty, culture, and stories of this valley. I wanted to
change that. By starting Dwarsrivier Adventure, I could share my love for nature, history, and community while
showcasing the attractions that make this valley unique. For me, guiding is not just a job—it’s a way to share the place I proudly call home.

Q: Tell us more about the Wine Walks?

Our Wine Walks are the perfect way to explore the stunning outdoors of the Dwarsrivier Valley while enjoying
world-class wines. This 6km guided journey begins at the Dwarsrivier Tourism Office, where transport takes you to
Thelema. From there, we walk through beautiful landscapes, stopping at Le Pommier and Alluvia for tastings. After
the final stop, transport returns you to the Tourism Office. It’s the ideal blend of nature, culture, and wine in one unforgettable adventure.

Q: What are your favourite things about the Wine Walks?

What I love most about the Wine Walks is how they blend world-class wines with rich stories, local history, and
breathtaking valley views. Each stop offers something unique—starting with a refined tasting at Thelema, then
enjoying a true South African food and wine pairing at Le Pommier, and ending with a relaxed picnic pairing at
Alluvia. It’s more than just wine tasting—it’s a journey that celebrates the beauty, culture, and flavors of the Dwarsrivier Valley.

Q: Other than wine walks, what should visitors and tourists know about Dwarsrivier or see/do in Dwarsrivier?

The Dwarsrivier Valley is a hidden gem of Stellenbosch, surrounded by majestic mountains and rich in culture.
Beyond wine walks, visitors can enjoy guided hikes, scenic walks, and e-bike adventures through breathtaking
landscapes. The valley also offers cultural and history tours that bring local stories to life. With activities for the whole
family, Dwarsrivier is the perfect place to slow down, connect with nature, and discover experiences you won’t find
anywhere else.
